Frequently Asked Q’s

Choosing an Organizer

  • We often hear from our clients that they feel overwhelmed and that the process of editing and organizing feels daunting. You might be surprised to learn that this is quite normal. We often attach emotion to our belongings and our spaces. When you work with a neutral party like a professional organizer, they can bring a level of objectivity, helping you separate emotions from your things. With an experienced partner, you will feel supported, and even excited to tackle a space.

  • Our service fees are hourly, and we have a minimum of 6-hours per project. We begin projects with a consultation (virtual or in-person), which allows us to provide an estimate of the number of hours we’ll need. All products and materials sourced for projects are charged at market rates.

  • We staff every project with 2-3 organizers, depending on the size of the scope and the space. Every project will always have an experienced Project Lead and 1-2 Project Assistants, depending on the size of the job. The number of organizers scheduled will be included in your project quote.

  • We will travel almost anywhere for projects as long as budgets allow! For any projects outside of the tri-state area, we charge for travel time and expenses.

  • We do both homes and office spaces and love the new challenges each provides!

  • Since every space is different and every customer has different needs, this varies. However, we strive to be as transparent as possible by providing a clear estimate following the initial consultation.

  • Yes! If you have a knack for organizing and creating systems in your own space, we’d love to hear from you. Checkout our Careers page to learn more about joining our team.

Our approach is extremely bespoke - we excel in understanding the needs of our clients’ homes while establishing systems that fit their lifestyles and needs. Our ethos stems from the idea that your space is intimately connected to your mental health, and an organized space leads to a freer mind.

More About Organization

  • In organizational terms, a system is a methodology or organizing technique that serves a specific function. For instance, we might establish a system in your kitchen for your morning routine. This system might be a zone that includes your coffee maker, supplements, blender and toaster. In creating the system, we would consider the chronological order of your morning routine and organize the components accordingly. Systems are intended to streamline your day-to-day routines since your belongings are organized in a way that intuitively make sense.

  • Organization is most important in tight spaces since it helps you optimize the square footager you have. Eliminating clutter and creating systems that are customized to the size of your space and your lifestyle will not only make your life easier but also make your space feel bigger. Of Space + Mind excels in small spaces, and we would love to help you maximize your space!

  • Editing is the most difficult part of organization because we often attach emotion to our belongings. We recommend working with a neutral party like a professional organizer to help separate emotions from your belongings and determine a) what is motivating you to keep them and b) if they are still serving an important purpose in your life. Coupled with creating systems in your spaces that you can stick to, we truly believe anyone can become a more organized person.

  • Choose a space that feels manageable to you: a single drawer, a corner, under the sink. Starting small allows you to create some momentum and the confidence to keep going. Take everything out so you can see it. This will allow you to identify duplicates, garbage and unnecessary items. Next, you’ll edit, paying close attention to items you haven’t used in several months or items you’re hanging onto because of guilt. Simply taking inventory and beginning the editing process will feel like a huge step and propel you to keep going!

  • Our team has a specific methodology we follow for every project. We tackle each space one step at a time. First, we’ll take everything out to allow us to more easily identify unnecessary items and duplicates. Next, we’ll work with you on editing, ensuring you’re only keeping items you use frequently and feel good about. You’ll notice that simply taking inventory and beginning the editing process will start to minimize those feelings of overwhelm.

  • The best systems are the systems you’ll actually use. In the consultation process, we ask questions about routines, lifestyle, needs, and pain points in order to create solutions that are customized to each client. Our goal is for systems to align so well with your daily routines and needs that you don’t have to think about them.

  • Organizing tools like baskets and bins are only helpful when they properly fit the area and solve the challenges of your space. We measure everything to ensure fit, and pay close attention to materials and placement. For instance, we’ll opt for transparent bins for pantry items if you’re a visual person while opaque bins may work better for longer-term storage like backstock. Our approach to organization blends design consideration with functionality, allowing us to create solutions that fit our clients’ aesthetics while also improving efficiency in their daily lives.
